ADRIAN PAPANIDE
AEROSPACE STRUCTURAL RESEARCH CORPORATION, Milford , CT Principal Engineer/Owner • Lead mechanical designer responsible for layout, solid modeling and drafting for all mechanical design aspects of projects. In addition, responsible for management of proposal, design, analysis, procurement and test oversight duties for various contracts. • Design of satellite based laser system.Responsibilities included mechanical design and layout of entire system. System includes 4 peizoelectric translation stages, 2 lasers and multiple optical elements. Aggressive weight, size and dependability were required. Oversight of the over 300 drawings. Manufacture selection and interface. • Design of commercial laser and power supply systems. Responsibilities included the mechanical design and layout of all systems. Aggressive size and weight goals were required. • Contracted to provide design and analysis support for the RIS (Retroreflector In Space) subsystem of the NASDA sponsored ADEOS project. Responsibilities included FEA analysis for static launch loads, modal analysis, harmonic response, random vibrations and thermal analysis. • Analysis support to PLX, Inc. for a Northrop/Grumman periscope assembly. Modal analysis, frequency response, shock load and thermal/stress analysis for operating limits. • Modal and random vibrations analysis of the Horizon Sensor for the TRW AXAF-I spacecraft. • Design of automated process machinery for the production of disposal battery components. Responsible for the project from conceptual design to implementation. • Design and analysis of high speed electrical generator. Responsibilities included mechanical design and layout, structural/thermal analysis of rotating and static components and assemblies and evaluating design alternatives. • Harmonic response and shock analysis of aircraft power generator. • 3-D FEA modeling of claw-pole generator for stress, thermal and magnetic analysis. • FEA stress analysis and design optimization of automotive components for Mercedes, Ford and Chrysler. • Design and analysis of two-stroke engine components for D-Star Engineering. 1987-1996 ALLIED SIGNAL AEROSPACE, Stratford,CT Senior Design Engineer • Design of the high pressure turbine rotors for the advanced Common Core (12-14K thrust) engine program. Applied concurrent engineering practices to improve producibility and reduce manufacturing cost. Worked closely with suppliers to shorten first article production time. • Advanced Gas Generator prototype (JTAGG) - responsible for design of the high and intermediate pressure turbine stages and related hardware. Worked closely with stress and heat transfer departments to create a viable design that meets all structural and functional requirements of the program. Redesigned the high pressure turbine blade incorporating advanced cooling techniques to reduce weight and increase service life. • BMW-Rolls Royce BR710 turbofan (14000 lb thrust) - Responsible for the design of the power turbine rotor, case and shroud assembly. Tasks included conceptual design, modeling, analysis and layout generation. Extensive use of 2-D axisymmetric analysis for sizing and optimization of various configurations. • Rolls Royce TAY 670 Turbofan - Design and analysis of the low pressure turbine case and shroud assembly for the 18K thrust derivative of the TAY 650 engine. Optimized the design to minimize thermally induced stresses and achieve the desired service life. • Received a patent for the design of a compact multi-line flexible fuel manifold system that eliminates fatigue cracking and potential fire hazards.
